The Biography of Felix Duenas
Felix F. Duenas was born in Ecuador and is from the Incan nation, nestled in the beautiful mountains of the Andes. His family moved to New Jersey in his youth where he began painting and playing music as a young man.
About the Artist
Felix went on to study art at Jersey City State College for commercial fine art and continued to explore an array of styles developing his passion for color and music.
Felix began his extensive music career as a drummer and toured throughout New York and New Jersey doing an average of 300 shows a year. While on the road he would sketch and would finish the rest of the paintings once he arrived home
In 1999 Florida became his home where he continued his career as a hair stylist and drummer while prolifically painting in his spare time. Now retired, Felix is enjoying his freedom to paint which is presently his first passion in life. His lifelong development and love for color is vividly expressed in each painting, combining mixed media, contemporary, abstract in style.

Felix was honored and excited to exhibit his artwork in support and conjunction with the art of artist Rex A. Begaye. He shared not only a connection as a hair stylist and old friendship, but also as comradery through their indigenous roots. The Art Ovation show, Harry Little Bird also displayed his Pueblo pottery as a guest artist with Felix’s artwork. “They all start with a deep and emotional situation, I have my habits, preference. All my paintings are handmade. I do not follow rules and systems.

From his roots of his Incan ancestors to his rock and roll roots as a percussionist, Felix’s artwork is a dance of color, energy and life to experience in each piece. I do not look for innovation or radicalism, just an abstract theory. With no basis in reality, time & space. My work takes me to a world of dreams, whence in reality, your restricted to rules and regulations.

Felix has created a large collection of acrylic on canvas, mixed media, sculptures and sketch artwork spanning 50 years. His passion for balancing color has inspired him to experiment and evolve in an endless flow of paintings.

The biography of Sophia, a family portrait
Felix shares the details of his process as an artist and the evolution of the “Sophia” painting from the beginning sketches to the finished portrait. As the completion of the painting was realized, a song emerged from the idea of this video. What started as a little background music, turned into a recording session in the middle of a thunderstorm, which was recorded and included in the sound track of “Let it Rain”.
